  • Help! annoying trouble with the preview on AE7

    Hi all,

some days ago I’ve seen a weird thing happens on the G5 of a colleague of mine: the 3D composition seemed to stop to react to the camera in the main comp after some frames.
Now the same happens on my pc (winxp sp2, GeForce FX 5600). I’ve some 3D compositions and in the main comp the camera. Some of these compositions seem to work fine. I can scrub the timeline and see how the 3D layers being affected by the camera position. But for some of them this doesn’t works: their 3D layers look affected by the camera while I’m scrubbing for a while, but a certain point they stop to react to the camera.
By the way the render looks good and the position of those unlucky 3D layers seems right.
But the thing is that by this way work with 3D comps is a pain.

Hope someone have already saw something like this or already know a possible solution.

    Now, this is weird!
It seems I’ve fixed it, just curious if someone could explain me this strange issue.
Under the secret menu I’ve checked Disable Layer Cache, and it worked!
Could, in some manner, the installation of AE CS3 beta on the same machine, be the cause of the problem?

At least, I can work again now.

[Marco] “their 3D layers look affected by the camera while I’m scrubbing for a while, but a certain point they stop to react to the camera.”

It sounds like your camera layer isn’t set to the full duration of the composition. Check that?

Nope, the camera duration is the same as all the layers.
Now it works, with the layer cache disabled seems to work.
But I’m wondering why this issue …

Maybe it somehow got corrupted… I wonder if Edit > Purge > Purge All would’ve solved it as well?

Yes, purge all works fine as well.
But of course this way would make working with AE completely impossible, since every frame I should purge all to fix the preview making it to look right.
So far seems that the secret tip works fine.
By the way, the same thing is happening on the computer of a friend of mine, after having installed AE CS3. It seems that the two releases cannot live together at the same time on the same machine.
Or, maybe, the CS3 version modifies something about the way AE handle the preview.
