  • Help! AE alpha import into Avid issues.

Hello all. I’m on a Symphony PC, editing a 16×9 project in PAL. We’re importing graphic transitions created in AE with alpha channels.

The AE folks render them out Avid Meridien Codec at 601, 720×576, non square.

My import settings are 601, non square, RGB color space, Use existing alpha channels.

The clips import as matte keys and when I lay them on V2 over my V1 video track, even though the transition is supposed to fill frame, there is a two to three frame pixel gap around the image where V1 pokes through underneath the transition.

If I go into effects editing mode and scale the transition up to 102%, they cover the image. But who wants to uprez?

Even if I import the clips ignoring the alpha channels and lay on Avid’s own luma key, the same thing happens.

    Anyone have this experience?
I’m also getting QTs from AE with the same specs that are not transitions (we’re doing an animated feature) and this gap does not appear with those clips which leads me to believe that Avid is doing something funky with the alpha channels. What’s going on?

Please, any help would be super appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.
