If the device shows under the Vegas Capture Utility’s video menu, you may be abel to use it from there.

Otherwise, use the device as always and then use the media in Vegas.

Same here! Trying to capture video in Vegas 7 via the Pinnacle Moviebox as well. Vegas 7 ‘sees’ the device but I get this error message: “The video device “Pinnacle Moviebox Deluxe” cannot be opened…” Not sure how to solve this.

You can’t. The Pinnacle Moviebox does not work in Vegas.

What would be the best way to capture video in Vegas 7 from my analog Sony Camcorder?

Get a convertor that connects to the computer via firewire. There are many available. The Canopus ADVC series is an example.

If you own or have access to a miniDV camcorder WITH the pass-through feature (analog in to firewire out) AND your computer has a firewire card in it, this is the easiest way.

Failing that, the Canopus ADVC-55 ($220 at B&H) is a a standalone box that does the same thing.
Once again, your computer needs a firewire card.

What some folks have done is to buy a used camcorder from EBay.
It doesn’t make any difference if the tape transport doesn’t work as all you need it for is the pass-through feature.
Be advised that not all miniDV camcorders have this feature so buyer beware.

I bought the Canopus ADVC-55 and it works like a charm. Thanks for the recomendation. It shows that it’s often a waste of time time to get certain things to work. You’re better off making the investment and buying the right stuff! Moving from Pinnacle to Vegas was certainly the right move 🙂
