    Hello,
    I am about to start cutting a 120 mins documentary. I have been an editor for a long time but I have never cut something that long and I have some concerns/questions.

    My main concern is the export of something that big. Will my machine be able to export in decent time, let alone play a reference movie that heavy?(I have FCP 5.1.4 on a 2.2 Dual PowerMac with 4.5gb of ram) And once done will I be able to compress it enough to burn a DVD? If not what is the best alternative other than making a miniDV tape? I have almost 4 Tb of space in 4 different HDs. I am planning to use 2 for storage and one for processing.

    The format is DVCPro-HD most likely 720pi60. also I am gonna have a few different formats some are DV and others DVCPro 24p. Would it be best to edit on a 24p timeline so that FCP can add frames when needed or on a 60p?

    Hi Paolo,

    You mentioned this will be in DVCPRO HD format and you have about 4 TB of disk space. There does not seem to be enough disk space to do the job if you have everything online, plus your rendered output too. Looks like you would need to have 6TB or more space.

    You can use our Video Space web page to check out the amount of disk space needed vs time vs video format.

    If this is an important project, you might consider using RAID 5 protection to give you some peace of mind. Dulce Systems offers a line of storage products.

    I was actually misled, it is DVCPRO24p. and i think that there’s about 60hrs of footage.
    Given by my calculations I should be ok. There’s always need for more storage.
    I will check out the site and the raid 5.
