Help – 24p had Dropped/Duplicate Frames
I’m having a wierd issue that I can’t seem to resolve. I’m editing a feature doc for a PBS station. Footage was originated on a Panasonic HDX 200 P2 camera at 24 fps “Normal” and edited in FCP in a 23.98 sequence. Problem is, I keep getting these wierd glitches – what appear to be duplicated frames – throughout the program. They seem to occur most often either right before or right after a dissolve or other transition. I was told that an upgrade from FCP 5.0 to FCP 5.1.2 addressed the issues working with 24p (23.98) frame rates. I made the upgrade and, while it has helped, it hasn’t totally resolved the issue. I’m still getting the duplicate frames.
At first the glitches only occurred going into or coming out of something complicated – like, say, transitioning to or from a nest. So I went back and made inedpendent QT movie files from all of the nests, and that helped. But it’s still happening (randomly now) and still occurs only around transitions. One thing to note: It only seems to occur on the media files that originated in the camera. While most of the nests have movement (usually photos pushing or pulling over a background) the “jumps” don’t show up on the nests. They happen coming out of or going back to the original camera footage.
Shane suggested that I should be editing on a 29.97 sequence. I built another sequence and set it for 29.97 fps interlaced, lower field first. I copied and pasted the media from the 23.98 sequence and it went goofy! The whole thing appears to be running a little faster, and the in and out points of the individual clips have all slipped.
Does ANYONE have any ideas here?
