Thank you for such speedy posts. However, the steps suggested do not find my current problem. I thought it was the Firewire cord…used another one…no better. Two bad cords?…possible but unlikely.

I can capture in iMovie. So there goes the Firewire card, cord, and connection theory. When I use the capture tool with FCP it says VTR OK at the bottom and it will control my camera fine…just no capture.

The View>Video Playback has Apple Firewire selected but has “missing” in front of it.

I was trying to play video through my camera to record onto a stack of VHS decks. I’ve done it a thousand times…until last night.

I did see some posts here and on apple.com where people had problems with QT 7 so I downloaded the apple reinstall 6.5.2 program. I have tried all the fixes apple suggests – even the QT receipts… everything appears ok.

    Any other suggestions?

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

There would likely be much more HELP available for you if you would NOT just make your Subject line: “HELP” (or similar).

Please state briefly your PROBLEM in the Subject line so those with ideas would know what KIND of HELP you actually need.

(If you think about it, virtually EVERY Subject line could be called “HELP”… and that would be of no “help” at all.)

Sorry about that. If you look a few posts down you will see a very detailed explaination of my problem. My posts got seperated, probably something wrong I did.

Anyway…Problem solved! I reinstalled the latest version of QT and everthing magically worked fine. I suppose that Apple doesn’t want you to go backwards as their reinstall of 6.5.2 did not work properly and obviously left some remainder of QT 7 lurking somewhere on my system (although I couldn’t find it in Quicktime receipts).

Thanks to all that responded and tried to help me in the last eight hours. The speed of this forum and genuine helpfulness of everyone has been great.

    Thank you,
    Steve
