November 2, 2007 at 3:12 am[digitioli] ” I have tested the batch reverse telecine and then importing the files into FC to check them, and it seems like it’s working. “
Open one of the .rev files in Cinema Tools and step through it frame by frame for 10 or 15 frames. You should see absolutely no interlacing.
[digitioli] “it still says under codecs that they are Integer (Little Endian), Timecode, DVCPRO HD (1080i60). This is disconcerting to me…
“
1080i60 is just the compressor that it’s using (it’s the official name of the codec). The frame rate is really where it counts. As long as it says 23.98, you are good. It’s not dissimilar to 720p60. Even when working @ 23.98, the codec is called 720p60. No worries there.[digitioli] “What should my FC settings be to ingest those files without having to do any other maneuvering?”
Open the “log and transfer” window, point it to your MXF files and then ingest the files. It’s kind of like the log and capture window, but when you submit the clip, it transfers it to quicktime. It’s all really painless and easy. Once the files are in, then drag a clip to an empty timeline and FCP6 will ask if you want to match the sequence with clips settings, click yes. This will create a 1080i29.97 interlaced timeline.
To get a 1080p24 timeline, import the .rev files you created into a bin and create a new empty timeline and repeat the process I just outlined above. This will create a new 1080p24 timeline. You can double check this by selecting the timeline and hit apple-0. The setting you are looking for are the frame rate should be 23.98 and the filed dominance should be set for none.
When you did the rev telecine, you told Cinema Tools to make 23.98 files, right? Not 24.0?
[digitioli] “Clearly, my shooting choice in the future (as of tomorrow) will be 24PA, since that setting seems to have it’s own preset.
“That is done in the log and transfer window where you choose the preference and make sure that the “remove pulldown/duplicate frames” preference is on for 24pA material.
Hope this all helps.
