  • Heavily aliased video when rendering from an image sequence

Posted by Ryan Andrews on January 20, 2008 at 9:19 pm

I’m working in a project that contains still images, and numbered still sequences. When rendered in CS3, the sections with an image sequence are heavily aliased, to the point that the text in the image is impossible to read, but when it goes to a still image section, it looks crisp and clear.

I tried rendering in CS2, and it looks perfect all around, with the same rendering settings.

I’ve tried changing the setting to everything I can imagine, even tried rendering in quicktime with the same problem.

Is there something new in CS3 thats causing this? I could do it cs2 instead, but I’ve already done so much in CS3, to redo it all would no be too fun.

    Here are my settings:

    Project Properties:
    Editing Mode: Desktop
    Timebase: 30.00 fps
    800×600
    square pixels
    no fields
    30fps timecode

    Export Settings
    Format: Windows Media
    Range: Entire Sequence
    Preset: Custom

Video Codec: Windows Media Video 9

    Bsic Video Settings:
    Encoding Passes: 2
    800 x 600
    fps: 30
    aspect: square pixels

    Advanced Settings:

    Decoder Complexity: Auto
    Keyframe Interval: 5
    Buffer Size: Default
    Bitrate: 1,024 kbps

If you have any advice I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

Have you tried turning off frame blending?

When you go to export/adobe media encoder, there are two tabs at the top left above the preview window. Click the output tab. Up in the top left there is a deinterlace option.

    MAKE SURE DEINTERLACE IS UNCHECKED!

It was checked by default for me and that problem has wasted too many hours of my life.

Good Call!!! This little option was causing all kinds of problems in my final render of my demo reel. Thanks for posting this tip. Now everything doesn’t look all aliased and jaggy!
