  Headset Line Input

  I have a headset/w a mic and when I plug in the headphones, I can hear fine, however, when I plug in the Mic to the line input, I do not get anything. I go to System Preff and change my inout from Internal to Line, but I get no sound. I also tried this on a friends mac and it did the same. Any help would be great.
