HDX900 Stereo/mono mic circuit
As you all know the HDX900 has a 5pin conn for their stereo mic. After examination of the schematics for the camera I found a circuit already exists for “mono-ing” the two channels so you can use a standard mic for both channels (as has been the case with every other cam since forever)
They just don’t want you to know (so you have to buy a $1000+ stereo mic from them)
After MANY phone calls to people at panasonic trying to confirm this I just got word that this is indeed correct.

audio LCD SCM077All you have to do is remove the jumper to ground on connector P9901 (pin 7 and 8) (see SCM107)
and presto the CH1 mic should be available on both channels.
they told me that this MAY void the warranty (since THEY didnt do it) but thats why its there!I haven’t tried it yet..just got the confirmation minutes ago.

At first, I thought it was a ripoff to use a proprietary stereo mic, but after owning the camera for a few years. I really like the stereo effect. I’ve used it quite a bit for moving nat sound. Killer for car passes etc.

Shortly after we got our HDX900 in 2007 we made a 4-5pin cable adapter to do the same thing so that we could use our old camera mic and have it in mono on either channel. It’s worked great for us.

I did the same with a 3 -5pin cable and its worked out great. I would have preferred a stereo mic but at some stage the cup no longer flowed over with cash for gear.
