HDX 900 User bits
Posted by Robin Probyn on January 8, 2008 at 12:27 pmWhich digits are the best to use in the User bit to put in the tape number info eg tape no 150 for example… dont think I,ll get into 4 digits !!
Is it the first 3 digits or last 3.Should this be set before changing TC settings/ only when bars are displayed (when changing tapes)I,ll have the TC set to preset not regen.
For some reason doesnt seem as straight as Sony camera,s
Thanks

January 8, 2008 at 10:01 pmHave been sometimes putting the tape number in the user bits, handy for when you go over 23 tapes.
Dont know why but with the HDX900 and the varicam,I put in the numbers, but they seem to get lost,or other numbers come up.Sometimes the frame rate.
Thanks

January 8, 2008 at 11:15 pmPanasonic HD tape based cameras (Varicam and HDX) use some of the user bits for flag frames and frame rate metadata. This is required to pull the 24 frames out of the 60 to create a 24fps timeline and the frame rate for use in frame rate correction.

January 9, 2008 at 1:28 amThanks, yes I,d heard about this somewhere down the line.
So how is setting tape numbers for example best done? Tried it recently on each tape change, either before setting the TC,or after, but then when I switched it back to User bit, after shooting, there would be flag and frame numbers, and no where could I find my tape number settings?
Its been a bit of a mystery to me for a while now!
Thanks

January 17, 2008 at 8:27 amOn the Sony camera,s I would put the TC switch on the side panel to SET,then change the UB and then when still in the SET position change the TC.
This didnt seem to work with the HDX900,the UB would go back to all 0,s.But if I put the button down to REC RUN once, after I set the UB,then back to set and then changed the TC it would keep the UB settings.Just one extra flick of the button.
Just been using the HDX900 in below freezing conditions, and works really well,no problems. And I can fit 7 tapes in my pockets!!!
