I am planning to capture footage from my HDX 900 and understand that using the firewire brings everything in, and allows “deck” control through FCP log and capture.

However, I want to loop my HD video and audio out of camera through AJA IOHD box and ingest ProRes 422 into the MacPro. AJA tells me they have a little software download (VTR Xchange) which will allow the Mac to bring in the timecode as well as the video/audio. Then I’ll drag all these files into FCP and be good to go.

But there still remains the issue of deck control. The AJA IOHD does not support firewire loop through, and no other firewire devices will work with the AJA box.

Does anyone know of a work around with FCP or otherwise to grab hold of the deck control for digitizing in this mode. Perhaps another firewire card… and see if the deck could be controlled that way, while the video is looped through the AJA IOHD?

Any ideas? Otherwise, it will be just a hard roll, and capturing whole tapes at a time.

    thanks.
