HDV workflow?
Hey,
This kind of invloves Avid Pro HD as well as AE. I thought I’d post it here anyway.
So, I just shot my first bit of 720P 60P footage. After capturing the footage into Avid, I exported a quickttime ref as always.
Back in AE I created a new project and chose HDV 720P 30P; they didn’t have a 60P option. When I import the file however, the clip shows up as a white screen.
This is my first time working with HDV so I’m sure I’m missing something here.

Welcome to HDV hell! It seems to be the nightmare format to work with.
Are your Avid and AE on different machines? A white-screen is a QT symptom that you’re missing a CODEC. You will have to install the required CODEC if your AE is on a different machine. To set a 60p comp, just go to your Comp Settings dialog and change its FPS to 60.
Lastly, you may find that working in HDV from AE to be unbearably slow – your mileage may differ depending on your style of work and expectations. Experienced users prefer to use an intermediate CODEC to work with.
Do a COW Search for Intermediate CODEC. Intermediate CODECs are the ‘new thing’ in post production where HD is concerned. It has become a necessity. Until HDV CODECs mature and are more timeline friendly, a firm understanding of intermediate CODECs and how they apply to your workflow is going to be crucial to productivity and sanity.

ahhhhh, just what I wanted to hear!
They’re on the same machine. I’ll do a search on intermediate codecs.
Yeah, I imagine this will slow down my machine quite a bit. Hoping to implement alot of proxies.

I wasn’t aware that you could export an QT ref of HDV footage from Avid. Did you transcode your sequence to Avid’s DNxHD 145 codec?
