HDV workflow question; do I actually need a Blackmagic card?

I have new Mac Pro (3GHz intel model) with 4GB ram and 4 internal 500GB hard drives.

Shooting on JVC GY-HD111 in 720p/25p mode.

Do I actually need a Blackmagic HD Extreme card, or would I simply be better off editing in native HDV, then using Compressor to do the SD convert for DVD mastering?

The reason I ask is that I was going to be using an HD Connect LE box with the Blackmagic card, I took delivery of the card this morning, but it causes my Mac’s screen not to wake from sleep so it is unusable as my workflow involves my Mac sleeping from time to time. What happens is I sleep the Mac after quitting all applications, then when I hit a key to awaken it, the fans blast, but screen stays black. Card is in slot 3 (won’t go in 4 as HDs are in way). Anyway, because of this issue I’m starting to think if using a HD-Connect box via Blackmagic Card is even necessary? I was told going into HD-Connect via SDI/HD and editing in DVCPROHD was a better way of doing it? can’t understand why as my computer should be up to a little HDV surely?

What workflow would you recommend for HDV 720p/25p on a top of the range brand new Mac Pro dual 3GHz intel machine with 4 GB of ram and 3 additional Western Digital Enterprise RE 7200 rpm 500 GB hard drives? Also have the better ATX1900 graphics card too.

If I do edit in HDV, can Compressor make an SD version for me so I can shelve two DVDs, an SD one and a HD one for the future?

    Thanks guys.
