I have recently started to learn on how to create DVD’s and they work fine. What for the life of me I can’t figure out is how to get that good looking HDV footage to stay that way after the transcodings and compressions. I captured 1080i via the XHA1 camera and into Avid timeline i created a quick sequence and then transcoded into Avid DNX codec and then exported via quicktime reference then in sorenson I went DVD large – VBR double pass – 6 I Frame and the video coming out just looks fuzzy like the sharpness is gone and the whites overtake the picture. I have tried every imaginable output setting and I am just very unsatisfied with the final product.

Do you have a workflow suggestion on the settings to get the best picture to DVD from HDV for a SD delivery?

    Thanks,

If you know it’s gonna be SDI in the end, you are best off capturing it as 720 letterboxed. The resizing may be whats trashin’ your image.
You spittin out references? I dunno whats causing the blooming.
