    I have question.

What is the best work flow for HDV footage (interlaced 1080i 50) to SD DVD to prevent terrible interlacing lines on a plasma screen?

Should you export HDV as interlaced only or try progressive to reduce interlacing lines?

The reason I ask is this….is there any way to reduce the interlacing lines (shark toothing) on SD DVD when it is played on a plasma screen from Interlaced HDV footage?

Should I export with progressive settings in compressor 3 from 1080i 50 for SD DVD?

    Advise please.

If you deinterlace the video, you’ll also throw out half it’s resolution… bad idea.

I’d suggest that you look at more than one plasma too. Some of them really stink at SD video in general… and some DVD players don’t up-convert SD to HD very well either… so a lot of this would depend on WHICH plasma… I think Pioneer’s plasmas do the best with this FWIW.

    Thanks Jerry,

Is it better just to keep as interlaced and export as SD DVD interlaced?

I know I deinterlace the HDV footage when going to web, QT movies with good results.

I know my next purchase will be an progressive HD camera instead of interlaced to reduce the risk of problems for a client.

What do other professionals do to prepare their HDV interlaced footage prior to SD DVD destination?

    Cheers
