  • HDV to SD 4:3 downconversion? (big doubt)

Posted by Loops on July 22, 2005 at 1:28 pm

    Hello,

I would like to do a downconversion from HDV to SD, but i wolud need that the downconverted footage looked like 4:3, without letterbox. And i don’ t know if this is posible with decklink. I have checked it out with a decklink pro but it only allows me to downconvert to 16:9.

If this wasn’t imposible i would apreciate a help. I’m going to work with a tv station, and i have to give them the master on dvcpro50 tapes. I’m going to buy a sony hdv can and i wanted to shoot in HDV and then do a downconversion with a decklink pro to print to a dvcpro deck through sdi. But i can’t wok with a letterbox image.

Another posibility is to downconvert the hdv to dv with the camcorder and then edit to tape thorugh sdi to the deck on a dv timeline, but i don’t know if i’m going to lose too much quality.

As you see i have a lot of doubts….

Why don’t you take your mastered HDV timeline as source and drop it into a SD sequence for the center crop version?

I don’t know what editing system you’re on, but in Final Cut Pro, the workflow would be:

    1) Edit native HDV
    2) Create SD sequence (probably 10-bit Uncompressed)
    3) Drag HDV Master sequence into SD sequence as source
    4) Adjust DVE for Center Crop
    5) Render and output SD sequence to tape
