I have a serious doubt here, trying to export an HDV sequence to a QT movie for an SD DVD. I did some test with that and got different results each time, I tried exporting to DV-PAL anamorphic, because I want to keep the 16:9 ratio, the first time it went all right the second it came out 4:3 and the third was letterboxed 16:9….
what would be the safest+fastet way to do that ?
p.s. Unfotunately I’m working on a powerbook and the calculation times exceed five an six hours so it’s a nightmare and I need a sure shot here…
    Thanks.

I just tested your case in my system. I exported 2,5 mins of hdv mateial straight from timeline using Compressors “DVD-the best quality 16/9 90min”-setting and oh boys, it took REALLY long, time approx 13 mins to export (and I use Quad!!), but the quality is perfect!

thanks for your answer, doesn’t give me much hope though 🙂
I’m using FCP5 and the Compressor. I don’t even have the DVD studio pro. the thing is that I need to find out if there’s maybe a parameter I’m missing while exporting the HDV to DV that will assure me it’s exports in 16:9. I can’t stand uncertainty…
    Zinim.

p.s. how can I translate your test with the quad to a G4 powerbook ? how long would it take me to export an hour long sequence straight down to a DVD ?

Zzinim- Experiment! Make a 10 sec. sequence and export it via compressor per instructions above. We always test, test, test using short sequences. When we find one that does exactly what we want we make our own step by step procedure (in text edit) for our system. Hope this helps.

    I’m all for testing and I love testing… I test everyday…. BUT,
as I wrote in the first psot, the same export gave me three different result… so my tests have failed, and I wanted to know if someone know something that is certain. thanks for your help though 🙂
