Simplest digital version. 1 ‘in-computer’ Transcode (Not too lossy)

    Firewire into FCP.

Then for greatest reliability in the transfer to tape–You should then transcode your Sony HDV codec footage to the DVCProHD codec. We don’t trust the playback/HD monitoring output for critical transfers. Render it and print it for greatest reliability.

Firewire out of FCP to a DVCPro HD deck.

Simplest Analog version–more lossy. (HDV to Analog – Analog to Digital.)

HDAnalog component out of camera (Does your model have that option? Or is it SD analog only?) into component HD to HDSDI conversion box.

HD SDI input on DVCProHD deck.

Depending on your converter…..you may need to run audio through a digital console (Analog audio from camera into digital console to analog or digital audio out depending on the DVCPro Deck.) with a MS or two of delay to the audio to keep the audio in sync with the video. (Beware that most A/D converter boxes seem to introduce a few MS of latency during the conversion. If the audio stays analog, you must ‘retime’ it using input channel delay on the console to keep the two in temporal sync.)

Better off to go to Apple Intermediate Codec or ProRes. Too much signal loss to go to DVCPROHD.

We convert from HDV to DVCProHD via the capture from our HVR-1500 SDI out to the Kona3 in. Just select DVCPro as the capture codec.
