I’ve got a project that’s been shot and edited on HDV but I’ve also been asked to provide a DV copy.

I’ve gone file export QuickTime and selected DV PAL anamorphic.
I checked make movie self contained

The movie looks pixilated on screen and looks bad when viewed on a TV. Looks like the frame order is wrong. I’ve checked and the frame order is correct. Any idea’s on what I’m doing wrong?
I’ve gone to easy set up and selected dv anamorphic and I’ve checked the sequence and its dv anamorphic lower field. The only thing I didn’t do but its doing as I type this is check re render frames or what ever its called next to make movie self contained. Is this it?
    Thanks for any help

HD is Upper Field First, DV is Lower Field First so your fields have been reversed.

Shift fields filter can help, though FCP is not the best as scaling video. We use our Kona 3’s to downconvert HD to SD here.

DV PAL is upper field first.
DV NTSC is lower field first
    HDV is upper field first.

Stewart – if you don’t a video card in your Mac like a Kona or black magic, then a simple way to downconvert your sequence is to create a new SD sequence – PAL 10 bit uncompressed for maximum quality, if top quality not so important could create a ProRes 422 or 422 HQ PAL 10bit uncompressed sequence. Copy your HDV timeline and drop it in your new sequence. It will have a bright green preview render bar over it. Export as a Quicktime – use current settings – a reference file will be quicker. Now open that quicktime export in Compressor and apply the appropiate SD DVD setting. Compress and export for DVD studio pro and make your client’s DVD.

    Best,

    Alex.

[Eric Jurgenson] “DV PAL is upper field first.”

This is wrong. PAL DV is lower field. It is the only lower field PAL codec that I am aware of.

    hello
Ive sorted it out now but this is what I did.
it was taking 2 hours + to make a 6min quick time file and it wasent working well.
so I went to the orginal time line and exported the 6min movie as self contained in the same format it was already in and then I made aa new time line and imported that movie.

I exported it off the time line as a pal dv anamorphic movie.

I re imported this and made a pal dv time line and printed to tape.

I dont no why this wouldent work untill I made a self contind movie in the orginal format if any one can tell me please do!
