    Using Mac OS 10.5.8
    FCP 5.1.4
    Sony deck HVR M10u

    Captured original HDV footage, edited as HDV in timeline. Now attempting to record it on tape as HDV footage using Sony HVR M10u deck.

    Will not record.

    System presently setup as follows:

    Sequence Preset: HDV -1080i60
    Capture Preset: HDV
    Device Control Preset: HDV Firewire
    Video Playback: (Missing) Aple FireWire NTSC (720×480
    Audio Playback: Default

    Playback Output
    Video: (Missing) Apple FireWire NTSC (720×480)
    Audio: Default

    Different Output for Edit to Tape/Print to Video
    Video: HDV (1440×1080) 60i
    Audio: Default

    I think most HDV decks do not allow for Firewire input of a HDV signal…

    Sure they do. You just have to use the PRINT TO VIDEO option…the output has to be prepared properly, and that is how you prepare it.

    And keep in mind that when using Print To Video FCP must conform the video. This is because of the horrible GOP structure that HDV uses. Editing HDV makes cuts in-between the iFrames of the GOP structure and so during the conform stage FCP has to rebuild the GOP structure and make new iFrames. needless to say this is whey it sucks to edit in the HDV codec.

    Oh and conforming will take a LONG time.
