    Wow,

I have 8 tapes to digitize. I’ve done 6 – no problem. Worked like a charm. Two of the tapes, however, are giving me huge problems with random timecode breaks all over the place. There are maybe 4 actual camera takes per tape, yet I wind up with 80 clips if I let it go. I’m working through several combinations of HDV, HDV Firewire basic – so far no luck. I’ve gone through all the posts here looking for a way around this, but haven’t found it yet.

    Here’s what I’m using:

    G5 1.8 dual 3gigs ram
    FCP 6.0.1
    JVC BR-HD50 deck

    Howdy,

We ingest approx – 20 hours of HDV every week via Firewire – until recently all went without a hitch BUT last week a few tapes would simply not ingest – only way around was to NOW the capture minus machine control, make sure you have your setting set about the TRT of the tape ie Abort capture after XXX min is off – BUT you will need to keep an eye on it … hope this helps !!!

Thanks. I tried that and it won’t work. It’s weird since other tapes seem to work fine. I’m wondering if I striped a couple of tapes and then dubbed these over.

It’s very frustrating. After discovering how common a problem this is I can’t imagine ever using this format for a substantial project.

There are sometimes that a good ole tape dub is needed. There are workarounds… but if you need to recapture it again later, you’ll have to go thru the same ole headaches.

Pre-stripe a tape and dub it firewire.

had a similar problem at work. if you’re capturing off of a camera, go get the drums cleaned. if you’re capturing off the deck, maybe get it maintenanced. this might help temporarily.
