    Hey there,

I do a lot of work in DVCPRO-HD and I haven’t worked with HDV much but I have an HDV project now. Acknowledging Walter Biscardi’s oft-repeated advice to get out of the HDV format as quickly as possible in post, I have used the Chris Poisson tutorial (thanks, Chris) to capture the HDV material as ProRes. Two questions arise from that:

    1. The material all came in 6 frames out of synch. Is that a common problem? I am running latest software on an Octocore and I’m capturing to a 6 TB RAID with lot of spaced on it. I captured via firewire from a Sony Z1U. I figure that setup is good enough to maintain synch, but…

    2. I would be happier, frankly, working in 720p. I assume that if I’m using firewire to capture, HDV cannot be captured in a different format. True? So I would have to use my Kona 3 to re-export everything if I want to change the format?

    Thanks.

No, I got no responses on this one. But I’ve had some discussions that indicate we’re not alone. I think I need to buy an HDV deck and capture through my Kona 3 card to avoid synch issues.

    Good luck.
