  • HDV sequence print to tape on a HD tape

Posted by Pradip Patil on January 23, 2010 at 6:51 am

    Hi

I need to output the HDV sequence on a tape.
    I have two options.
Either put it on digibeta or HD tape.

So what settings do I need for print to tape work in both cases?
Do I need different sequence settings for these outputs or will HDV work fine?

[Pradip Patil] “Either put it on digibeta or HD tape.”

Digibeta…OK, that is a tape format. But “HD Tape?” Do you know there are multiple HD tape formats? HDV, DVCPRO HD, HDCAM, HDCAM SR, D5. Which of these do you want?

Settings don’t really matter here. What matters is what HARDWARE do you have to get this to tape? Digibeta doesn’t have firewire inputs, only professional video and audio connections. So you will need an HD capture card to output your HD video and downconvert it to SD for layback to digibeta. AJA, Matrox, Decklink all make cards that work for this. And you can take the video directly from the HDV timeline you have.

Same for any of the HD Tape formats…you need an HD capture card to output to tape. SDI, Component and RS-422 deck control. Well, except HDV tape. That you can PRINT TO VIDEO via firewire from FCP.

HDV will be fine. You just need the proper hardware to do it.

    Thanks Shane..

Yes, I am aware about the hardware part.
I was just not sure about the settings.
I have a decklink setup, so just print to tape or edit to tape method will work fine for digibeta output, right?

Edit to tape would be the way to go. Make sure that you use the Decklink software to downconvert the signal.
