    Hi pros,

I just bought a sony HVR-A1p and installed Cineform Aspect HD v4.2 in order to have a faster edit in PP2. Everything was fine, editing even faster than expected… no prob at all… UNTIL I exported to an AVI file using the Cineform HD Export: when opening it with win mediaplayer video runs slower AND audio is out of sync. I then realized that also the original unedited captured files have the same problems when I watch them with mediaplayer.
    Where’s the trick?

    Thanks.

Don’t use Windows media Player ?

What type of AVI are we talking about. It could be that:

It could very much be that your machine can’t keep up with the data rate. You didn’t specify what type of machine you are on.

What if you export to WMV HD?

I have a very fast PC and I don’t even try to play Cineform files at full rate. Why would anyone want to?

    Thanks,

I don’t think it’s my system (intel dual proc. 2.60 ghz – 2 gigs ram – 6 raid drives – scsi system drive – XP pro) as the same clips do work perfectly INSIDE Premiere. They just don’t work right with windows media player. Do I need to upgrade media player to play HDV files? I also tried “DVD x Player 4” with the same odd result.

    Any idea?

    Hi Steven,

How do you export the finished work? To tape?

I export to Cineform HD AVI for use in After Effects. I use it for importing into other Premiere Pro projects. But, I don’t use it for viewing.

I export to Windows Media 9 for playback on my AVeL Linkplayer2 DVD player at 1280X720 on my HDTV. I can also play it on the PC that way of course.

I do understand why people export to tape, of course.

I just don’t see a need to play Cineform HD files. However, there is a way to do that at half resolution.

Read the FAQ on this subject: Playback of CineForm Intermediate files stutter in Windows Media Player. Can I fix that?

I don’t think Media Player has ever supported HDV playback, but I’m sure having the latest version couldn’t hurt.

Version 10.00.00.xxx supports HDV, it can be a bit choppy if the processor isn’t fast enough.
