HDV QT Self Contained EXPORT is pixelated.
Question:
I work natively with HDV in FCP 6.0.6 and occasionally when I export a feature >> HDV 1080i60 QT Self Contained, the EXPORT is pixelated and only about 4.5GB, when the result should be more like 25GB-30GB. It doesn’t always happen. About 90% of the time there is no issue. My work around is exporting with QT conversion, which I don’t love to do, but the result is good enough. It happens on my Intel-Based Macs only (I have a mixture of G5s and Intels, this never happens on my G5 Quads).
Last night the rig used was my Intel Based MAC PRO 8-Core with 10.5.8, 2×3.2 Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 4GB RAM. The timeline was fully rendered (although it also randomly occurs when I watermark my features with a PNG graphic and export without rendering first), in last night’s case only some 3-way Color Corrector filters were being used, and all was rendered and looking good.
Any ideas?

HDV is the same data rate as DV. How long is your program because 25-30 gigis of HDV is approx 2.5 hours long? My guess is that there is a mismatch between sequence settings and the output QT file, which may also mean your sequence settings aren’t the same as your codec.
Also when you export a self contained QT, make sure your settings are “same as sequence”. Finally how are you judging the QT file. If it is in quicktime player then depending on your version of quicktime, you might not have optioning the display settings for hi quality and FCP compatibility.
