    Hey guys.

We’re doing a big doco series all shot on HDV and as yet haven’t got FCS 6.
Would like to know from those who have tried it the best work flow.

1.Capture in HDV. Edit show. Media Manage. Recapture with Intensity card to ProRes422HQ.
    Grade. Output.

    or

2.Capture in HDV. Edit show. Transcode finished sequence into ProRes422 HQ. Grade. Output.

Number two. I’ve done it, and it works.

Me too, it works fantastic. There’s a boatload of info about this in here:

I would be interested to have someone time the two work flows to see which one is faster. Using Media Manager to transcode might be slower than a reload but I would like to test that theory. A lot would depend on the machine used to recapture. I am going to hire an HDV 1500 soon to test how fast it can locate and lock. Reloading from a camera is slow but a decent machine may be the fastest way.

I’m very happy that this method is as good quality wise as recapturing as our method for ingest will be simply to push play and record everything. We are shooting time of day code with two cameras as well so that often make recapturing a nightmare.

Each show will be 22 minutes long so I assume an overnight conform to ProRes422HQ would be sufficient?
