I have some hdv video (720p) that I have dropped into a D1 comp for keying. Everything looks fine until I look at the rendered video. The .mov looks terrribly aliased, but it is only the keyed part that looks bad.

Do I need to do something to the hdv video before I drop it into a sd comp?
    Thanks

You have hit one of the biggest problems with HDV its so compressed that it doesn’t key well. Also its hard to mix with other footage like SD, because of how limited the color information is.

Can you post a sample of what it looks like…

What render settings are you using?

Are you viewing the footage on a monitor or an NTSC monitor?

    Thanks Simon,
The quality of the key is fine, actually better than I expected. It is only when I render the video out that I get bad video. I have tried uncompressed, video and h2.64 codecs all with bad results.
What I am seeing is moire pattern stuff on shirts and hair. Really bad.

have you tried a lossless codec to see if that makes a difference?

Just an update, Lossless is certainly the way to go. Looks much better, I also added the reduce interlace effect and that helped smooth the moire patterns nicely.
    Thanks
