Howdy All. Just upgraded to FCP 6 and AE7 and did a bit of effect work on some original HDV 1080i60 footage. Of course, the render out of AE7 took forever (30 hours for the 12 minute clip) and I exported using the included HDV 1080i60 codec. I can watch the clip in quicktime, and import it into FCP, but when i put it on a timeline (same sequence settings), I can’t even play the sequence. When I move the cursor, it takes several minutes to bring up the frame. I’m lost. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Much appreciated.

The file you exported from after effects douse not match your sequence settings in FCP.

What were your export settings in AF?

If you are going to be doing work in AE I would get out of the HDV format.

That’s what I thought too, but the AE export is 1080i60 at 29.97 and so is the FCP sequence. The clip shows up as fully rendered on the timeline as well.

BTW…I thougth the big benefit to AE7 was better compatibility with HDV (i used AE 6.5 and never had a problem like this)

[nsmagic] “but the AE export is 1080i60 at 29.97 and so is the FCP sequence.”

multiple formats can do 1080i60 29.29, perhaps it is exporting a format other then HDV

    Josh,
I’ve battled this for more than a year with no joy.
Same as you render out to HDV, drops cleanly into the timeline, get immediate dropped frame errors. Every time.
I resorted to rendering to animation and rendering again in the FCP timeline.

I’ve starting editing in DVCPro HD recently since upgrading my AJA board, but haven’t yet tested AE renders in this format

EUREKA!!!! Thanks for the reply Jim…I had to keep searching today and I found a workaround. It seems that AE7 HDV renders have this problem commonly with FCP. You can (a) use the animation codec [not really an option for me because of the length of material] or (b) export the file in Quicktime with a different name.

I tested this on a short clip today and it works beautifully. It Still takes forever to re-export the files, but at least all my work is not lost. I’m kind of hoping that AECS3 takes care of this, otherwise, I may have to stay in AE6 longer than I wanted.

Thanks again to those whe responded.
