Wow…..what a search I’ve done of all the NLE’s out there, Avid, FCP, Edius, Vegas, etc. I’m trying to find the best HDV solution for editing; which means I want to see what I’m editing in real time, at full resolution, without a bunch of transcoding and waiting. Used 6.5 for a long time, bought the Z1U, upgraded to Pro, and have edited a few simple things. But the review monitor on my computer is playing maybe 15 frames/sec, the transcoding is forever (just the free plug-in from Cineform), and I guess I’m wondering if there are hardware solutions like Edius to speed this HDV thing up. I know GOP Video is a pain to edit, but like many have said, it’s like DV was in 1999. I have to be able to see what I’m editing, without rendering, in full resolution to make good edit decisions. I also can’t have artifacts in 1 out of 20 HDV scenes that I capture (this is a new problem lately).

BTW, I love Premiere, as it’s what I know, but I will go to Avid, Edius, FCP, Vegas whoever, if they have a similar DV workflow solution to HDV………any thoughts by folks who have experience with other NLE’s???

Edius works with an NX card or a dual head…my GoBoxx runs a video overlay out of the second port of the Radeon card…

Edius also performs FAR better when using an intermediate codec however…just like PPro (and you really owe it to yourself to at least download the full Aspect HD plugin on a trial just to see the rather huge difference between PPro 1.5.1 and the full package.)

Edius has an interface that takes some getting used to…but it isn’t without merit. I just find myself more comfortable with PPro. And I have both Aspect and Prospect for PPro…I personally think pretty highly of the CineForm products…for the record, Vegas works really well with Connect HD (another CineForm product)and its intermediate codec as well…

Avid is either using native, or is using DNxHD, and Apple is using native or Apple Intermediate Codec (MPEG I-frame only)…or sometimes DVC-ProHD…none of which really perform as well in the image quality department as the CineForm or Canopus intermediate codecs at this point…in my opinion anyway.
