Hi, friends. I’m new to the ProRes world. I’m editing HDV footage on my pre-Intel Mac G5 in FCP 6.0.1 I now understand that it is better to originally capture in ProRes. So I have this nice complete project – a :30 and a :10 PSA – and have exported it to ProRes NTSC 16×9. It plays beautifully in the Quick Time Player. My goal is to make letterboxed Beta SP copies via firewire. When I re-import the ProRes file into a new FCP timeline it results in a full-frame “squeezed” format. The good thing is, is that it plays smoothly and with perfect audio. How can I get it to be a nice letterboxed 16×9 standard-def output? Help! (New Quadcore Mac Pro coming soon) Thanks everybody.

I didn’t explain properly. I have a Datavideo D to A converter with analog output.

Thanks, Dave, I know the Datavideo is not up to it. Not looking for a hardware solution. I was wondering about a possible work-around in FCP so I can take this beautiful ProRes NTSC 16×9 file – sourced and edited in HDV – and output a letterboxed signal.

You’d be better off exporting a ref file current settings from ur HD sequence and dropping that into Compressor – make a 8 bit SD 16X9 file.
Import that into FCP, then lay out to tape SD 16X9
