I keep getting differing answers on this, but to record HDV can you use a normal mini-dv tape or do they have to be HDV specific?

    Thanks

There is no difference which is the beauty of HDV cameras- no need for specialized tape. Whatever you do- just make sure to pick one brand/type and stick with it. Different brands have different lubricants which by switching will gunk your tape heads.

Not to change topic, but on the lubricant issue – it’s ok if you use different kinds of tapes from the same manufacturer right? I’ve been wondering about that, I have two different types of Panasonics…

I can’t say yes with absolute certainty because there may be exceptions but in general you are correct. Brands stick with the same lubricants.

Yeah, I thought they probably would. Thanks!
