  • HDV – M2T file support in FCP 5.0

Does anyone know if FCP 5 now reads the HDV-M2T files writen to the Firestore or nNovia?

I am thinking of getting a Firestore for a Sony FX-1 HDV camera. But the Firestore FS-4 HD and HD Pro only records in HDV’s native file type (M2T). The nNovia HD is the same; it only records HDV in M2T files.

Apple states that FCP 5 is now HDV native, but no where do I see mention that FCP will read the M2T files that the Firestore writes from HDV cameras. Posts from other forums from late last year are full of work arounds about running some conversion program to get the M2T files into QT’s or something a Mac will read. Is this old news?

Confused by advertising that says these devices record QT or .MOV files – they do, but only for DV25. For HDV read the following: From Focus Enhancements: “FS-4HD, you will be able to record in DV25(Standard Definition) and HD(M2T). The QuickTime used for this unit is for DV25 only. There is also an upgrade for the FS-4PRO HD that is coming out that will allow a user to use HD in either “M2T” or “QuickTime”” From Pro Con on the nNovia: “None of our products actually write HDV to .MOV files.” Thank you to the support teams from both companies for their honesty.
