Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy HDV L&C Window – Strange Interface

The HDV capture window is different from the other formats. It is probably how the Log and Capture window will look for all formats in the future if and when the FCP team will implement it.

As it stands now, there is no way to turn off audio preview via the window, you just have to turn the volume down on the mac or run it into a mixer and turn down the pots for those channels in the mixer.

I have captured twice HDV, and I don’t remember I’ve ever saw that interface.

Did you use the HDV easy setup and capture via firewire? If so, then that’s the window you see. If you use a capture card easy setup then you’ll prob see the old window.

Both times I captured FireWire, and I with the default HDV presets. Directly from an HDV camera.

AFAIK the HDV capture window has always looked different. I do not have FCP 7 yet so I can’t see if FCP has a “unified” L&C window or not but where I’m at now we have nearly two dozen machines and for the thousands of hours of HDV we’ve captured over the years the L&C window has always looked different than if we were capturing DV or DVCPro HD (all over FW of course).

    Hi Andrew,

Just curious – Does your L&C window look the same as mine?
Or do you have the Preview control, etc?

    I’m on FCP 6.0.6

My window looks the same as yours Wayne.

My assumption is that the Audio Preview button missing is a side effect of the HDV compression. Kinda like how you can’t send an HDV signal out from FCP to an HDV deck for recording or monitoring the same way you can a DV or DVCPro HD signal.

    Andrew,

Thanks – good to know. At the very least it means that I’m not running some freaky-deaky version of FCP.

I’ll just ride the ol’ mute button whilst I capture 25 tapes.

    All the best,

    Wayne
