I want to use some HDV 1440×1080 shots in a NTSC DV 720×480 4×3 veg project.

If I leave the clip properties pixel aspect ratio to 1.3333 (HDV 1080)then the picture crops not only on the sides where I want, but also on the top and bottom, and I don’t want that.

I tried changing the clip properties pixel aspect ratio to 0.9091 )NTSC DV) it crops left and right OK, but stretches the picture top to bottom.

Setting the veg properties to HDV 1080-60i, squeezes the DV 4X3 clip top to bottom.

    Any solutions please?

found my answer on the Sony forum.
Cropping is a lot easier than you’re making it. Set your project properties to match the output. Open up the Pan/Crop window, right-mouse-button click inside the cropping frame, choose Match output aspect. That’s it; perfect match.
