HDV HELL!!! Please help me, I have lost the plot!

Do Project audio settings match the Cam settings? alot of cam’s default settings are 12bit vice 16bit and sometimes people forget the check the Cam’s audio settings before shooting to make sure they are the bit level they want.

Thanks for the tip but on both Z1 and JVC there is no option to change the bit rate… and the only option in premier is 48000hrz… nothing about 12 or 16bit? Still stuck… :o(

Is the audio going gradually out of sync, or is the error changing on every camera stop/start point?

Are you capturing the entire tape end to end with multiple camera rolls?

Hi Tim, The Audio seems to go out of sync gradually usually completely by about 4-6mins in.
I have tried to capture the whole tape and bits in 3-4 min chunks… which would take me a year just to capture. Also in the capture tool the scene capture check box is greyed out. and when I try to do a batch capture it will not find the in point and asks to extend the pre-roll but a pre-roll of 3 or 20 seconds makes no difference… :o(

Any Ideas?

I tried with the native settings then with a custom setting I made up, and then for the JVC cam Adobe had a setting for it on their site which I tried… All with the same results…

Two things…and I’ll be offline for a while so I may not respond until this evening.

1. I need to know what the settings are on the projects…particularly framerate and audio settings. I use CineForm and I haven’t captured using the Adobe HDV settings for some time…I’ll need to refresh my memory on the workflow.

2. Go to CineForm.com and get the free trial download of Aspect HD and see if you can capture properly with it…it will create CineForm files that will be larger than HDV files and they are proprietary so when the 15 day trial is up, you would need to buy it to run the media. However, it might tell us something. Aspect definitely works better on systems that might get winded with HDV processing…

The fact that the Z1 footage is also strange is puzzling. Was the Z1 fotage 25fps interlace or CineFrame 25? You have verified that the JVC shot in 25 and not 24 correct?

…just trying to cover all the bases…

I have downloaded Cine Form and will try it out tonight as I am shooting today. So I’ll let you know on that front.
As for the settings the Z1 was set on Pal 25fps interlaced on the standard 1080 50i and as far as I am aware so was PPro… My system is only 2months old and is pretty much empty so I would have thought that it could of handled HD (well that

The audio sync issue is a strange one.

The Aspect demo may fix the problem just from the standpoint that it has to “re-sync” the video/audio at the camera start/stop points (you will want to use the scene break capability with Aspect installed).

I don’t use the JVC camera so I have very little first hand knowledge about it. At this point I could only take some wild guesses…

When the footage plays back from the camera, it is in sync, right?
