  • HDV Field Dominance changing when captured

I’m not sure if this is normal fare. I’m capturing 30p HDV footage from a Canon XH-A1s and when I bring clips into the browser, before they have been captured, clips are listed as having Upper Field Dominance. Once they’ve been captured however, the Field Dominance has changed to None.

When I mix this XH-A1s footage with Canon 7D 30p footage in the sequence that has been converted to ProRes, the 7D footage shows Upper Field Dominance. So I have a resulting mix of Upper and None Field Dominance in the 30p ProRes sequence.

First of all, is it normal that the XH-A1s footage changes Field Dominance from Upper to None when captured? Secondly, what should I do about this situation?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Enrico,
You are the one who know the proper field order, so set the correct parameters on the Browser before start putting anything on the time-line.

I’ve posted a screenshot of the Browser.

Since at 30p, I believe the field order is None, can I correct the 7D field order by showing Item Properties on the clip, and right clicking the Field Dominance “Upper (Odd),” to change it to None? This is what I did on the last 7D clip in the bin.

Is this the correct approach? I appreciate your feedback Rafael.

You can select a bunch and change the field order at once.
