    Hello,

I’ve been going through this list and noted the confoming process that is required when outputting to digibeta. My question is – when i’ve finished an edit at midnight and decided to crash record onto a digibeta and press play on my FCP fully rendered HDV timeline what am I loosing compared to performing an edit to tape – and the ‘conforming’ process?

This digibeta was for preview only – and i obviously need frame accurate tape output, but i’d like to add the answer to my library of info!

    Hi Paul,

I don’t think you are losing anything other than the usual security of rendering prior to mastering to tape. I posed a similar question to Apple a while ago and asked why the HDV conforming process takes so long given that you can monitor HDV output from DeckLink HD in real time. I was told this was a “good question” but the HDV support was new at that time and answers weren’t available. With a bit of luck this might mean a faster conforming process in the future but it’s hard to be sure as HDV is a useful but tricky format for NLE’s to process.

Because FCP works in native hdv it needs to re-encode the GOP’s to layout out to HDV tape. Luke, I believe emailed you to see if this could be turned off becouse it has nothing to do with outputing SDI. Any chance you could give it another round with apple to allow that to be turned off?
