HDV Capture Query
Moo to you all.
I have recently started using the Sony Z-1 Camera and have just shot some identical footage on DV and HDV to compare the difference in quality.
I understand that capturing HDV into FCP 4.5 HD should not present any problems as this camera has a ‘Down Convert’ function.However when capturing the DV footage is recognised as normal but the HDV footage causes an error message in the capture window (no timecode).
The only way I have found to get the footage onto the system is to select the ‘Convert HDV to DV’ setting in the i.Link menu in the camera. But is this simply converting the HDV footage back to DV resolution / quality?
Does anyone know a simpler solution?

That’s what ‘Down Convert’ means. It’s converting it down to DV video.
If you want to edit HDV in Final Cut Pro you have two options:
1) Buy this plug-in:
https://www.lumierehd.com/2) Buy the Final Cut Pro 5 update in a few weeks.
Unless you’re in a hurry, I suggest waiting for FCP 5.
