    Hi everyone,

I’ve got a problem capturing from my Sony HDV deck. The capture preset is on HDV, the device control is on HDV, and when I enter capture mode, FCP will let me control the deck, and shows the time-code, but I don’t get any picture (or sound).

It’s connected through firewire, directly into the machine (I thought it was the fact I chained in through an external drive at first, but not so) The tape is HDV, and I can see a picture on the LCD screen on the front of the deck, and if I try to capture, I just get an error saying “Capture aborted as no data was found” (Paraphrased).

This isn’t on my work’s mac listed in the signature below, but on a mac running FCP studio 5.1 with no external capture boards etc.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    John

Success is merely a failiure to imagine more…

G5 2.7Ghz, 4.5Gb ram, Blackmagic Decklink/multibridge, 5.6Tb Infortrend storage, FCP Studio 5.02, Makie MCU control, Yahama 5.1 surround, JVC DTV multi-format monitor, 2x23inch Apple monitors – and a partirdge on a pear tree.

I believe that you actually have to change your “Easy Setup” to HDV. Under “Final Cut Pro” (far left top or your screen next to the blue apple) choose “Easy Setup” and then select HDV 1080i (or whatever setup you need).

You will notice a slightly different looking capture window than the normal one, and you should get video. If you have already done this and still can’t get video be sure that your particular camcorder is in the right “mode”. We use the Sony Z1 here and I know it has a DV downconvert option that might throw this off…

    Two things to look at….

First, is you deck set to iLink Convert to ON and is the Component setting set to 1080i/480i?

Next, are you using the FCP Easy Setup preset or did you create one yourself? When I used the one supplied by Apple, I could see my video only on my Mac, not on my studio monitor. Later, I did find out that if I had my capture card set to 1080i 60 that I could see thru.

    Give those a shot!
