I am having problems capturing HDV video shot in 60i on a Canon XH-A1. I have tried capturing on a 15″ MacBookPro and a 21.5″ iMac, both with 4 GB RAM and Media 100 Suite 2.1.

I noticed in setting up for capture that there is not an HDV 1080 60i option; HDV 1080 29.97 is the only option. When I try to capture I repeatedly get the Temporary Loss of Video Sync warning and no video in the monitor.

    Deferred capture makes no difference.

I can capture in SD, but not HDV. What am I doing wrong?

Both computers run very sluggishly when the A1 is attached (via Firewire). They even run sluggishly even when the attached A1 is not playing video. Very strange. I need to capture the footage in a few hours because I have to return the camera.

I guess I could capture in SD and transcode to HD but I would rather not do that. I have tried to capture to two different hard drives as well, but no luck.

Aloha Marcus – On your camera, make sure your output is set to HDV and that down conversion is off. That’s in the SIGNAL SETUP menu.

Also – I’m assuming that you chose ProRes codec for HD and Video Input is HD Firewire HDV? The ProRes codec should be less strain on your system than trying to CODE/DECODE HDV. Eliminates the long GOPs.

Hi Robert, I had indeed done all that you suggested before I posted. Interestingly, I went and shot test footage in 30f and 24f and they captured with no issues, so I shot additional test footage at 60i and it captured with no problems. So I went back to the original tape and uploaded it with no further issues. I have no idea what changed, but as I mentioned in the first post I initially tried two different computers with two different licensed installs of M100 Suite and it just flat wouldn’t work.

Thanks for taking the time to troubleshoot with me.
