HDV batch capture
Am I right in my understanding that I can use batch capture for HDV via firewire just as I would SD but that if I use a video card such as a Decklink or Kona, batch capture isn’t possible and each clip must be captured on the fly? In other words, does using one of these video cards mean giving up deck control (my deck is a Sony HVR-M25U)?

No, why would it? You can capture Component from the deck, and use Firewire as deck control.
