Hello, we have a client producing a documentary and wants us to shoot for them using “HDV AVID OMF” for a HDV 30F 1080 16 x 9 project. We have a JVC GyHd 100UA with a Firestore drive which will not work for her and we are wondering what camera would be right to get her the files she desires for her AVID edit.

We are on FCP now so a little out of date on the AVID. In my research it looks like HDV for Avid comes in MXF files not OMF – but as I said, not speaking Avid so much any more. Any help would be appreciated.

OMF is for SD media only. It’s Avid’s older media format. It’s being replace by MXF (which can be HD or SD).

Your Avid editor wants MXF. It’s the only Avid-native format that supports HD. They’re just confused.

If you shoot with a Panasonic P2 camera (HVX200, 200a, 170, 500, etc…) you’ll shoot directly to MXF. These can be loaded into an Avid and edited immediately.

    Michael.

    I love the sony FX-1.
doesnt do p2 but the tape is generic in any player or their MC will recognice the camera as a DV deck. That’s how I bring mine in.
I have an early Arenaline though so no 1080 love for me. I bring it in letterboxed SD.
