Is there a way to preview my HDV footage from premiere pro cs3 through the firewire to my camera and then out of the AV port to an external monitor?

it worked with DV footage but is not working with my new HDV camera, i have heard premiere pro cs3 does not support this?

    thanks,

HDV cannot be displayed through the camera to an external monitor in the way that DV can. Take a look at a book called, “HDV Filmmaking” by Chad Fahs and read pages 93- 98, which starts with “Monitoring HD Video”. Also take a look at Blackmagic and AJA cards. In addition to what is described in the book, there are newer options using HDMI connections. Blackmagic Design is one manufacturer with the HDMI cards starting at $350. The HDMI output from your editing system outputs to an LCD with an HDMI connection.

One other suggestion- go to Google and enter, “monitor HDV”.

If i had a PCI card with a HDMI output on it could i connect that to a HDTV and set Premiere Pro CS3 up so when i played my video it would play on the HDTV if anybody understands that!!

    thanks

I’m not sure about that scenario. In my opinion, the Black Magic Intensity or Intensity PRO looks like a good solution using HDMI but I don’t have hands-on experience with it. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.

Since the Blue-ray versus HD-DVD battle appears to be coming to an end, I think the demand for HD will go up a lot faster than the past couple of years.
