I just got a new HDV camcorder, I am trying to mess around in AE but AE is moving very slow. I can’t even scroll the preview “no effects” window and AE jst stops moving.. I have a dual core machine with the 3 gig switch on. The file type I am using is an .m2t, what should I be doing or is what AE does with HDV footage?

    Thanks

Yes. Just search the COW for “HDV” and “slow”.

    Use proxies

You should be using CS3 (you should also get some boost if you use Vista) which is faster with HDV material and enable multiprocessing.
If this doesn’t work for you, render the file to quicktime animation and it should run faster.

    Thank you,

I tried using the search engine the first time but whatever I put in the engine did not yield the results that “HD and slow” did. I did check out Andrew Kramers proxy tutorial which was very nice. Any recommendations on what is the best codec to use?
