After many headaches we decided to capture all of our 720p24 footage via FCP 5.1.4 HDV AIC. We of course now have an abundance of footage that must be rendered and we also have to conform the footage to 23.98 using Cinema Tools because the HDV AIC brings it in at 59.97.

We did the batch conform. Of course we mistakenly did it to the originals and did not make copies so we are on a one way street here. Anway when we did it all of the audio slowed down and the dimensions have shrunk immensley.

    1) What can be done to the Audio or does it have to be re-captured seperately and sync done by hand?

    2) If we use FCP media manager and recompress to 720p24 to edit natively will that hurt/help or be a waste of time.

    Thanks for any advice.

I am working on a feature length project now shot with this camera, and I brought the footage in native via firewire. There were some issues around the cut points, as the JVC doesn’t seem to terminate the group of frames. This could also be because my dual 1.42 G4 isn’t the quickest pony out there. So I lost several seconds around each point where the camera was shut off. I just told the crew to pre and post roll, and things were okay.

Otherwise, it has been problem free.

If you want to work in 23.98, I suggest recapturing using HDV 720p 24 setting.

Fixing your current state of affairs might take longer than recapturing.
