I am currently attempting to capture HDV 720 30p footage (the DP says 24p, but the sony deck is reading 30p). Using Firewire 400 I can see the timecode and have deck control. I have set the appropriate obvious settings to capture and work with the format. But when I attempt to capture, I cannot see the footage in the preview window, nor does the system recognize any data coming down the proverbial pike. I know there is footage there, but FCP does not. I realize that HDV SD footage is not viewable with certain cards, this footage is not SD.

Please help, deepest gratitudes for any that is offered.

    A. What is your exact capture setting in lig and capture?
    B. Check if you have turned OFF iLink conversion in the Deck. If its on then it outputs DV, even with HDV source.
9 out of 10 this is the problem with hdv capture

Make sure the deck isn’t set to Down-Convert.

    Thanks Paul.
I checked the ilink, it is off
The settings I was using were HDV 720p 30f

    No other firewire devices connected?
    Trash your prefs and caches.

As far as I know only certain JVC cameras shoot HDV at 720p, their flavor of HDV doesn’t work in normal 1080 HDV decks/cameras from sony/canon/etc. for playback and capture.
