    Hey everyone,

I am editing a short today that is part of the 48 hour film project competition thats due tonight.

    https://www.48hourfilm.com

The DP insisted it had to be shot at 24p even though I begged him to shoot in 30p. We are using my Canon XHA1. I need to output a SD master on DV. So.. Can I just edit it in a 23.97 HDV time line and when finished copy and paste the clips in to a SD DV time line, render and output? I sure hope so… I won’t have much time to fuzt around as we have to deliver the master by 7pm tonight. TIA

    Bruce,

If it’s just a QT you need for your entry, the frame rate shouldn’t matter. Just edit and output 23.98.

Your director is a bonehead, 30p would have looked about the same and you would be in 29.97 land. I have that same camera and I shoot 30p all the time.

Anyway, your workflow should work okay, or, if you have a Kona or BM card, it should play it out to 29.97 to tape. Or you can convert the footage with Compressor or Cinema Tools prior to editing. 24p, what a needless waste of time and energy for something the average Joe can neither see nor cares about.

    Thanks Chris,

I tried to tell the DP that. But, he didn’t listen. I always shoot in 30p just for that reason. I would like to just turn in a file but it has to be by the rules which follow.

    1 Standard Definition/SD (that is, 720×480 pixels)
    2 NTSC (that is, 30fps not 24p)

So I need to get to SD land with this.. 🙂

Hey… Can I just finish my edit and output the cut to a file and then process in Compressor to get me to 29.97 SD land?

    Thanks a ton!!!

If you put it on a DV 23.98fps timeline and render, when you play out to tape, FCP will add 3:2 pulldown in real time to get out to 29.97fps.
