    Hi

I’ve got a movie in QT HDV 1080/50i and I need to make a screening copy in HDCAM NTSC format.

I’ve got quotes from a few post production houses and their charge for the conversion from PAL to NTSC is over my budget.

Can someone help me out with a few question? I’m on Final Cut Studio 2.

What will be the optimal digital format (as a data file) for a post production house to use for the output to HDCAM NTSC??

What’s the difference between 1080/59.94i and 1080/60i? I guess 59.94 is the one that should be used according to NTSC conformability?

Is there a recipe in Final Cut Compressor for this conversion? I’ve already tried a conversion with default settings for 1080/60i. The result was a bit pale and with unsmooth motions.

Any input to the subject would be appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Per

Hardware conversion is the only way to make this look good for a screening.

Graeme Nattress has a great standards converter, but you want to use that on the individual shots, not a finished, single movie file.

Ok, I’m going to change my answer on this one. We’re doing a series right now where 2 shows were shot in 1080i/50 and 3 were shot in 1080i/60.

I just pulled the opening promo from a 1080i/50 episode, exported just the video track as one self contained movie (cuts only) and then ran that movie through the Nattress Standards Converter into 1080i/60. It’s perfect. And a fast render too. Maybe 45 seconds for a 30 second movie.
