    Hello,

We’re in the process of switching from Final Cut Pro 6 to Premiere Pro CS5.5. With FCP6, we could edit multi-clips using 3 cameras, with the HDV 1080 60i codec from an eSATA dock (using 7200 RPM drives). Premiere Pro will start out fine, then start to stutter, then go back to normal, and continue that vicious cycle. I’m assuming it’s the Mercury Playback Engine at fault? I’m also wondering if it’s our video cards, but wanted to get more opinions. With the budget in mind, I was thinking nVidia GeForce GTX 560’s would do the trick.

    Mac Pro
    2 x 2.4 Quad Core
    24 GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 5770

    Thoughts?

Sounds reasonable, but you should also try CS6 which may improve things somewhat as well.

Download the trial and give it a spin!

Interesting note… I tried editing these HDV clips with a GTX 570 on another machine using PP 5.5, and it was a no go. Downloaded CS6 trial, and it worked in software only mode.
